The following Miami-Dade County public schools were recognized in Newsweek magazine's list of America's top high schools:
Coral Reef, Design and Architecture, MAST Academy, Palmetto, School for Advanced Studies, Coral Gables, Mater Academy Charter, Killian, New World School of the Arts, South Miami, American and Southwest Miami.
Public high schools were ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews of Newsweek: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors.
